Apple Communion

<-Back to Chalice Lighting

This ritual was one that I wrote for the UU Fellowship of Ames, Iowa.  I changed it a bit every year depending on the growing conditions that season.  We used it to celebrate harvest typically in November.  Apples were procured from a local orchard and on Sunday morning we would pass baskets of the fruit while we sang, From you I receive, to you I give. Once all had an apple, I would offer these words. This annual ritual became an important means by which we would be reminded of our connection with the earth, both physically and spiritually for many years.
